Introduction

Experience life in the Arctic Circle with this amazing tour in West Greenland, bringing you up close and personal with some of the most remote, dramatic and pristine landscapes on the planet. Witness the raw beauty of the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which awes visitors with its maze of giant icebergs calved from the vast Sermeq Kujalleq ice sheet. You will also have the chance to meet friendly locals in cosy villages and engage in exhilarating Arctic excursions.

Itinerary

Tuesday (Day 1): Experience the Ilulissat Icefjord
Depart from Reykjavik Domestic Airport for a short flight to the charming Arctic village of Ilulissat (Jakobshavn), beautifully situated at the mouth of the 56 kilometre-long Ilulissat Icefjord, also known as Kangia. Upon arrival, you are transported to your accommodation* for the next four nights. After settling in, enjoy a delicious welcome dinner at Hotel Arctic prepared by award-winning chefs while enjoying the stunning views of the Icefjord.

*Note: You have the option of staying at a comfort or quality hotel in Ilulissat.

Wednesday - Friday (Days 2-4): Explore Ilulissat As You Wish
For the next three days, the sky is the limit! You can choose from an array of exciting optional excursions, all of which can be booked locally at your accommodation.

Imagine sailing among icebergs weighing up to seven million tons while the midnight sun lights up their great white surfaces. You can experience this in person along with other awe-inspiring optional tours in Ilulissat, including helicopter rides over immense icebergs, motorboat tours to the Eqi glacier with its enormous pieces of calved ice, cultural demonstrations and village walks, whale-watching safaris, or excursions to the small, remote settlements in the area. For hiking enthusiasts, the tranquil Sermermiut Valley just a few kilometres from Ilulissat offers spectacular views from a number of marked trails.

Saturday (Day 5): Leisurely Morning & Afternoon Departure
The time has come to say farewell to this magnificent land, but first you can join a short optional excursion or do some last-minute souvenir shopping in the morning. On the return flight to Reykjavík in the afternoon, enjoy the stunning views over the Ilulissat Icefjord and its surrounding landscapes.

Booking
• Advanced booking of at least four weeks prior to departure is recommended due to the limited availability of airfare and accommodation in summer. Earlier bookings allow us to better accommodate your desired arrangements.
• This tour can be customized to meet your needs, including additional nights in Reykjavik and/or Greenland on request. We can also arrange accommodation in Reykjavik or combine other Iceland packages with this tour.

Other
• This tour originates in Iceland. Due to flight times between Iceland and Greenland, passengers may need to spend a night before departure and/or a night upon return in Reykjavik.
• The summer climate in Greenland is generally mild and dry with average day-temperatures of 5 -7° Celsius. However, Arctic conditions in Greenland can cause sudden weather changes so it is recommended to bring warm, weatherproof outerwear, thermal layers, and good walking boots and/or rubber boots. It is also ideal to bring a mosquito net or mosquito repellent and sunglasses.
• The itinerary can change without notice due to weather conditions.
• The currency in Greenland is Danish Krona (DKK). We recommend bringing some Danish currency or a credit/debit card (bank card) with a 4-digit PIN number for cash withdrawals at ATM machines. Optional Upgrade to a suite at Hotel Arctic; contact our Travel Consultants.
• Travel insurance is highly recommended.
• See our Travel Guide for more information about weather conditions, what to pack, currency and other practical information about travelling in Greenland.
