Winter in West Greenland is a magical experience with its incredible glacial landscapes, rich heritage, colourful villages, and unique wildlife. Although the temperatures may be chilly, you will have a warm welcome in the friendly town of Ilulissat, where you can get up close and personal with the local culture and natural wonders like the ice-choked Ilulissat Icefjord. This tour also offers an array of exciting optional winter activities like dog-sledding or the chance to witness the northern lights, a truly Arctic phenomenon!
Day 1: Experience the Ilulissat Icefjord
Depart from Denmark to Kangerlussuaq on the west coast of Greenland where you will take a short flight to the charming Arctic village of Ilulissat (Jakobshavn), beautifully situated at the mouth of the 56 kilometre-long Ilulissat Icefjord. Upon arrival, you are transported to your accommodation for the next four nights. After settling in, enjoy a delicious welcome dinner at Hotel Arctic prepared by award-winning chefs while enjoying the view of the beautiful Icefjord.
Day 2: Culture and History
Today you will go on a cultural walk of Ilulissat, or Jakobshavn in Danish, a settlement founded in 1741 that is now the third biggest town in Greenland with over 4,500 inhabitants. Your guide will tell you about the history of the city, the native Greenlandic culture, and the daily life of the hardy inhabitants of the Arctic Circle. The tour also includes a visit to local fishermen at the harbour and local hunters at the “Brædtet” trading post as well as a stop at the birthplace of the famous explorer Knud Rasmussen. You have the rest of the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 3 and 4: Explore the Winter Wonders of Ilulissat
Today, you can experience a cruise through a maze of icebergs or other awe-inspiring optional tours in Ilulissat, such as helicopter rides over immense icebergs, dog-sledding excursions, cultural demonstrations and village walks, or guided snowmobile tours. All optional activities and day tours can be booked locally at your hotel or in advance. For hiking enthusiasts, the tranquil Sermermiut Valley just a few kilometres from Ilulissat offers spectacular views from a number of marked trails. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at Hotel Arctic.
Day 5: Departure
Today, it’s time to say goodbye to this majestic land. Transportation is provided to the Illulissat airstrip, where a short flight takes you to Kangerlussuaq in time for your return flight to Denmark.
