Introduction

Founded by missionary Hans Egede in 1728, Nuuk is the oldest municipality in Greenland, which is evident in the many historical sites throughout the city. Today, Nuuk is a bustling city in Greenlandic terms with around 19,000 inhabitants but it still retains the friendly charms of a small town. Come experience the unique history and culture of the world’s smallest capital city along with the northern lights and optional activities in Greenland’s amazing winter landscapes!

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Nuuk!
Fly from Reykjavik Domestic Airport in Iceland to Nuuk, the friendly capital city of Greenland. After settling in at your hotel in the late afternoon, spend the rest of the day exploring your new surroundings, such as the old city centre by the harbour.

Day 2 & 3: Free Time in the Capital
The next two days are free for you to explore Nuuk as you wish.

Culture buffs can easily spend a few hours at the National Museum, which houses a large collection of Greenlandic relics, such as kayaks, umiaks and ceremonial costumes along with special exhibitions. More modern culture in the forms of theatre, music and art can be experienced at the Katuaq Culture Centre also a great place to enjoy a coffee break— while both traditional and contemporary artworks can be viewed at the Nuuk Art Museum.

And since much of Greenland’s culture is rooted in nature, why not take a small break from the city? You can enjoy a whale-watching tour in the fjord, a guided mountain hike around “Little Malene” or even a helicopter trip over the Inland Ice Cap! Excursions like these and many others can be booked locally during your stay in Nuuk or in advance with your travel consultant.

Day 4: Evening Departure
Today, it’s time to say goodbye to this wonderful city, but you still have almost the entire day to do some souvenir shopping, stroll around Nuuk, visit some museums, or perhaps join in an optional excursion. Your return flight to Reykjavík is late in the evening (Transfer not included).
