Introduction

Come experience the absolute tranquillity and unspoilt beauty of the Ammassalik District in south-eastern Greenland. By day, explore colourful villages and vast landscapes of snow and ice, and by night, enjoy vivid winter sunsets or the radiance of the northern lights. This short winter getaway offers such highlights as helicopter rides with amazing views, optional outdoors activities, and a stay in the village of Tasiilaq, considered by many as one of Greenland’s most scenic towns.

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Greenland
Depart from Reykjavik Domestic Airport for a short flight to Kulusuk in Greenland, where upon arrival you will enjoy a scenic ten-minute helicopter flight to Tasiilaq, enjoying panoramic views over the fjords and glaciers along the way. You are then welcomed by a hotel representative who will take you to your accommodation, where you can relax and enjoy a Greenlandic dinner.

Day 2: Tasiilaq Tranquillity
Enjoy the winter serenity of Tasiilaq, a cosy town with pristine natural surroundings nestled on the Tasiilaq Fjord. This is a great starting point for an array of exciting optional activities, which you can book right at your hotel. For a unique Arctic experience, we highly recommend trying your hand at mushing with an optional dog-sledding tour led by a local expert.

Note: outdoor activities are dependent on local weather conditions. The best months for dog sledding is in March and April when the daylight hours are longer and snow conditions tend to be more favourable.

Day 3: Kulusuk
The first half of the day is free to spend as you wish. Then it’s time to take a return helicopter flight to the Kulusuk in the afternoon. With a population of just 300 people, this friendly settlement is easy to explore and is a great place to find unique souvenirs, including some of the well-known local art and handicrafts of East Greenland. Spend the night at Hotel Kulusuk.

Day 4: Departure
Today, your Arctic getaway draws to a close. On the return flight to Reykjavík, enjoy more magnificent views over the Ammassalik area with its huge glaciers and floating icebergs.

Accommodation Details

We have two categories for accommodation on this tour: Simple and Comfort.

Simple

Standard Room with private facilities Basic rooms with private shower and WC/TV and telephone. Breakfast is included. Most hotels have their own restaurant.

Comfort

Deluxe/Panorama Rooms at 3-star or best available hotels. Comfortable rooms with private shower, WC/TV, hairdryer, telephone, armchair seating area, coffee and tea facilities, and panoramic views. Hotels in this class will have their own restaurant.

Important Note: Winter weather in Greenland is unpredictable and severe weather conditions can result in serious delays in air travel, which may incur additional expenses. We and our travel partners in Greenland do everything in our power to minimize inconveniences for our customers, however any such weather-related costs must be borne by individual travellers. Therefore we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance and booking two additional nights in Reykjavik after your scheduled arrival back from Greenland.

Arctic conditions in Greenland can cause sudden weather changes so it is recommended to bring warm, weatherproof outerwear, thermal layers, and insulated walking boots and/or rubber boots
The itinerary can, due to weather conditions, change without notice.
Please note that the northern lights (aurora borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
The currency in Greenland is Danish Krona (DKK). Credit cards are not widely accepted at small local shops, thus we recommend bringing some Danish currency or a debit card (bank card) with a 4-digit PIN number for cash withdrawals at ATM machines.
Duty-free shopping is available at Reykjavik Airport and Kulusuk Airport.
