Tasiilaq

With almost 2000 inhabitants, Tasiilaq is the largest town in East Greenland and is located on the big island of Ammassalik, 100 km south of the Arctic Circle. The town is beautifully situated in a fjord surrounded by high mountains and bisected by a small river that flows through the town. The Flower Valley behind the town has a unique flora and is a popular place for short or long hikes.

Tasiilaq past and present
Since it is only just over 120 years since the first Europeans came to the area, the traditional Inuit culture still plays a significant role in everyday life. However, Tasiilaq is also a modern society with many of the features you find in the world. Computer games, Internet and mobile phones have long since come to Tasiilaq.
