Day 1: Arrival in Narsarsuaq

Depart from Reykjavik Domestic Airport for a three-hour flight to Narsarsuaq Airport in Greenland, where you are greeted and transferred to your hotel in Narsarsuaq. After settling in, the afternoon is free for you to partake in an optional excursion, such as kayaking or a scenic hike or mountain bike trip through the picturesque “Flower Valley” towards the ice sheet 9 km out of town. Spend the night in a double room with private facilities at Hotel Narsarsuaq.

Highlights:

Optional:

  • Helicopter tour
  • Hiking
  • Mountain biking
  • Sea kayaking (kayaks and mountain bikes can be hired in Narsarsuaq.)

Day 2: Norse Ruins & Senic Nature

You might wish to follow in the footsteps of the Vikings! In the morning, a short boat ride from Narsarsuaq brings you to the tiny village of Qassiarsuk for a visit to Brattahlíð, the remains of the settlement founded by the infamous Viking Erik the Red, the first documented Norse settler in Greenland in 982 A.D. Here, a knowledgeable local guide will show you around a replica of Erik’s farm and Thjodhild’s Church, now an open-air museum.

From Qassiarsuk you can also take a scenic walk along the gravel road towards Tasiusaq—a route with amazing views over Sermilik fjord, which is typically filled with calved ice in the summer. (Optional activity; 16 km round-trip) Spend another night at Hotel Narsarsuaq.

Day 3: Smallest Capital in the World

You have the morning to sleep in or to do some last minute sightseeing. Head to Nuuk in the afternoon. After settling in at your hotel, take a relaxing stroll around the city centre and enjoy the evening at your leisure. Culture buffs can easily spend a few hours at the National Museum, which houses a large collection of Greenlandic relics, such as kayaks, umiaks and ceremonial costumes along with special exhibitions. More modern culture in the forms of theatre, music and art can be experienced at the Katuaq cultural centre—also a great place to enjoy a coffee break— while both traditional and contemporary artworks can be viewed at the Nuuk Art Museum.

Day 4: Free Time for Nature & Culture

As much of Greenland’s culture is rooted in nature, why not take a small break from the city? You can enjoy boat tour in the fjord Kangeq and visit the Island of Hope, or view the capital from a boat and see the nature and wildlife in the area. Or even a helicopter trip over the Inland Ice Cap! Excursions like these and many others can be booked locally during your stay or by your travel consultant.

Highlights:

Optional:

  • Boat tour
  • Helicopter trip

Day 5: Icebergs Under the Midnight Sun

In the morning, head to the airport in Nuuk for a short flight to Ilulissat, where upon arrival you are transferred to your comfortable hotel. Once you’ve had a chance to settle in, enjoy the rest of the afternoon as you wish.

In the evening set out for a midnight cruise through the majestic Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that awes visitors with its maze of giant icebergs illuminated by the midnight sun. Spend the next three nights at hotel or guesthouse in Ilulissat.

Highlights:

Day 6 & 7: Freedom to Explore Ilulissat

For the next two days, experience Greenland’s incredible nature by land, sea, or air! You can choose from an array of exciting optional excursions in the Ilulissat area, all of which can be booked locally at your accommodation.

Imagine a thrilling helicopter ride over the ice sheet or other awe-inspiring optional experiences such as motorboat tours among giant pieces of calved ice from the Eqi glacier, cultural demonstrations and village walks, whale-watching safaris, or excursions to remote settlements in the area. For hiking enthusiasts, the tranquil Sermermiut Valley just a few kilometres from Ilulissat offers spectacular viewpoints from a number of marked trails.

Highlights:

Day 8: Goodbye Greenland

When the time has come to say farewell to this magnificent land, you are transferred from your hotel to the airport in Ilulissat for your departure flight to Reykjavík. If your flight is in the afternoon, you can squeeze in some last-minute souvenir shopping or a short optional excursion in the morning.

Please note: flights can also be arranged from Copenhagen, Denmark on departure and/or on return. For further information about tour origin and flights, please contact us.
